Profile

As a researcher, I am closely linked to the Monumenta Germaniae Historica. I have worked for the MGH in various roles for over 30 years, as an editor, redactor and editor of the „Deutsches Archiv für Erforschung des Mittelalters“, deputy president, and, since 2018, as president of the MGH. My research focuses on the early and high Middle Ages, gender studies, and the history of science in the early modern period and 20th century. In this context, I have worked intensively for several years on the history of the MGH in the first half of the 20th century, as well as on the digital edition of letters by the renowned medievalist Ernst Kantorowicz, which the MGH is publishing. As a university lecturer, I enjoy working with my students and the young collegues in the MGH.

I am married to the medievalist Wilfried Hartmann.
