Profile
Pasquale Porro is Full Professor of Medieval Philosophy at the University of Milan. He previously taught at the Universities of Turin (2019-2025), Sorbonne Université, Paris (2013-2019), and Bari (1992-2013), where he became Full Professor in 2002. He has held visiting chairs at the Universities of Freiburg i. Br., Roma Sapienza, Sedes Sapientiae Lima, PSUAD Abu Dhabi, Lugano, and Luzern, and was ‘W.J. Bennett Distinguished Professor’ at the University of Toronto in 2023.
His research centres on the philosophical, theological, and scientific thought of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. He has authored over 230 publications and directs several book series in Italy and abroad. Together with Costantino Esposito, he edits the journal Quaestio.
He is a member of the Pontifical Academy of St Thomas Aquinas and of the Academy of Sciences of Bologna. His distinctions include the Thomas Aquinas International Prize (2015) and an honorary doctorate in Philosophy from the Angelicum, awarded in March 2024.
He is currently Principal Investigator of two advanced projects: For an Archaeology of Conspiracy Theories: The Ethics of Belief from the Middle Ages to Fake News (FIS1 AdvG) and Between Fixism and Evolutionism: The Origin of Species in Medieval Thought (ERC AdvG 2024).
