The Accademia dei Lincei is proud to announce that the Fellow Omar M. Yaghi has been awarded, together with Susumi Kitagawa and Richard Robson, the 2025 Nobel Prize for Chemistry "for the development of metal–organic frameworks".
The Nobel Prize laureates in chemistry 2025 have developed innovative materials, such as molecular sponges. They are extremely tidy structures, but very porous and with extraordinary resistance characteristics. There are many possible applications, such as storing hydrogen or CO2, filtering substances, but also capturing water in desert areas.
