“ANTONIO FELTRINELLI” AWARDS 2024

Class of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences

- 1 International Prize reserved to both Italians and foreigners, in the amount of € 100.000 in Biological Science;

- 1 International Prize reserved to both Italians and foreigners, in the amount of € 100.000 in Medicine;

four National Prizes reserved to Italian citizens, in the amount of € 65.000 each:

• two in Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Neuroscience;
• two in Molecular and Cellular Pathology, Oncology, Immunology, Microbiology, Medical Genetics.

- 5 National Prizes entitled «Antonio Feltrinelli Giovani» reserved to Italian scholars under the age of 40 on 31 October 2023 in the amount of € 50.000 each in the fields of:
• 1 in Astronomy, Geodesy, Geophisics;
• 1 in Biological Science;
• 1 in Physics;
• 1 in Geosciences;
• 1 in Mathematic, Mechanics and Applications.

In the 2024, the National Prize entitled «Antonio Feltrinelli Giovani» in the fields of Oceanography. not conferred in 2023, will be awarded again.
 

Class of Moral, Historical and Philological Sciences

- 1 International Prize reserved to both Italians and foreigners, in the amount of € 100.000 in Philosophical Sciences;

- 1 International Prize reserved to both Italians and foreigners, in the amount of € 100.000 in Romance Philology;

- 1 International Prize reserved to both Italians and foreigners, in the amount of € 100.000 in Graphics;

National Prizes entitled «Antonio Feltrinelli Giovani» reserved to Italian scholars under the age of 40 on 31 October 2023 in the amount of € 50.000 each in the fields of:
• 1 in Economic Sciences;
• 1 in History and Geography;
• 1 in Philosophical Sciences;
• 1 in Philology and Linguistics;
• 1 in Criticism of art and poetry;

Verranno infine banditi:
- 1 Prize for an exceptional enterprise of high moral and humanitarian value will be awarded in the amount of € 250.000 

- 1 Extraordinary  Prize for an exceptional enterprise of high moral and humanitarian value following the naural disasters that involved the Emilia Romagna and Marche Regions  will be awarded in the amount of € 250.000

LE ORIGINI

Antonio Feltrinelli nasce a Milano il 1° giugno 1887 da Giovanni Feltrinelli, nipote di Giacomo, fondatore della Società Collettiva Feltrinelli da cui sarebbe in seguito sorta la società per azioni Fratelli Feltrinelli, con le varie società collegate.

Figura di notevole rilievo nel campo economico e finanziario italiano, Antonio Feltrinelli assume la direzione degli affari del gruppo familiare nel 1935.

Quando, dopo la morte dei fratelli, rimane solo, decide di disporre della sua fortuna personale per fondare una grande istituzione culturale italiana "sul tipo della Fondazione Nobel ". Pertanto, nel testamento del 15 marzo 1936 (pubblicato nel 1942) dispone che venga costituito un fondo inalienabile e perpetuo destinato a: "premiare il lavoro, lo studio, l'intelligenza, quegli uomini insomma che maggiormente si distinguono in alte opere, nelle arti, nelle scienze, poiché essi sono i veri benefattori del proprio paese e dell'umanità ". 

Il "Fondo Antonio Feltrinelli" è un patrimonio autonomo e inalienabile, gestito dall'Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei al fine di conferire premi nazionali e internazionali a persone che si siano rese illustri nelle scienze e nelle arti.
