WANG Feng currently holds the position of professor of sociology at the University of California, Irvine, where he has been on the faculty since 1996. He is also a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. Prior to his position at the University of California, Irvine, he had taught and conducted research at the University of California, Berkeley, the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, California Institute of Technology, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He has been invited as a visiting professor at the Hong Kong Baptist University, Peking University and Tsinghua University in China, Keio University in Japan, and the University of Padua and the University of Florence in Italy. Wang Feng was born and raised in China, and spent his childhood and youth during China’s Cultural Revolution era. Between 1975 and 1978 and before entering college among China’s first post-Cultural Revolution cohort, he was a “sent-down” youth spending three years farming in a Northern Chinese village. He received his B.A. in economics from Hebei University in China, and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Michigan in the United States.
