Proposta per la formazione di un Centro di Ricerca -Meta-Museo Scientifico Nazionale

The Lincei Commettee for Natural History and Science Museums has identified a priority, made urgent by the rapid evolution of data acquisition technologies, methods of presenting artefacts, and processes for disseminating scientific knowledge: to overcome Italy’s structural lag in digital accessibility and the integrated promotion of scientific collections, which currently fall short of the most advanced international standards.

It is therefore proposed to create a national ‘Meta-Museum’ of Science, configured as a Research Centre (CRMM) and a training hub, structured as a dynamic and interconnected network, capable of operating as a unified digital system for the targeted promotion of key artefacts from various museum collections, selected for their high scientific and narrative potential. The CRMM will bring together museums, universities and research centres, integrating research in museology and museography, advanced training, open education, lifelong learning and active public engagement, including through the latest generation of immersive technologies.

The CRMM’s primary objective will be to offer an advanced, interactive and inclusive scientific experience, both in person and online, making science fully accessible to the public and actively encouraging young people – particularly young women – to pursue STEM careers, thereby helping to bridge the gender gap.
