Marc Mézard is a theore/cal physicist, professor at Bocconi University. He was trained and received a PhD in 1984 at Ecole normale supérieure in Paris, where he was hired as researcher at CNRS. In 1999 he moved to Orsay University and became the head of the sta/s/cal physics group in Paris-Sud University in 2010. From 2012 to 2022 he was the director of Ecole normale supérieure. He has received the Lars Onsager prize from the American Physical Society, the Humboldt-Gay-Lussac prize, the Bronze and the Silver medal of CNRS, the Suzanne and Anatole Abragam as well as the Ampere prize of the French Academy of Science and the “Prix des trois physiciens”. He is a member of the European Academy of Science. His main field of research is sta/s/cal physics and its interfaces in various branches of science – biology, economics and finance, informa/on theory, computer science, sta/s/cs, signal processing. In recent years his research has focused mostly on ar/ficial intelligence and machine learning.
